Examining the Choroid in Ocular Inflammation: A Focus on Enhanced Depth Imaging
نویسندگان
چکیده
The choroid is the vascular layer that supplies the outer retina and is involved in the pathogenesis of several ocular conditions including choroidal tumors, age related macular degeneration, central serous chorioretinopathy, diabetic retinopathy, and uveitis. Nevertheless, difficulties in the visualization of the choroid have limited our understanding of its exact role in ocular pathology. Enhanced depth imaging optical coherent topography (EDI-OCT) is a novel, noninvasive technique that is used to evaluate choroidal thickness and morphology in these diseases. The technique provides detailed objective in vivo visualization of the choroid and can be used to characterize posterior segment inflammatory disorders, monitor disease activity, and evaluate efficacy of treatment. In this review we summarize the current application of this technique in ocular inflammatory disorders and highlight its utility as an additional tool in monitoring choroidal involvement in ocular inflammation.

Update on Uveitis Management
Uveitis management has made a dramatic progress in the last decade with the development of new drugs as well as the change in the approach to the patients. There are several new drugs available including biologics, recombinant monoclonal antibodies against interleukins including IL-17, IL-l, and IL-6, and anti-TNF-α and T-cell inhibitors such as fusion proteins. In addition, there has been a sh...
متن کاملThe Highlights from Experiences on Enhanced Depth Imaging-Optical Coherence Tomography
The choroid is a highly pigmented and vascularized ocular tissue providing the vascular supply of the outer retinal layers. It may be affected by various retinal and choroidal diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV), central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR), age-related choroidal atrophy (ARCA), high/pathologic myopia, choroidal melanoma, ...
متن کاملEnhanced Depth Imaging Optical Coherence Tomography: A New Way Measuring Choroidal Thickness in Pregnant Women
The body changes markedly during pregnancy; each system behaves differently from a nonpregnant state. As the eyes are the only windows to see directly what is going on in the internal environment, more and more researches have been done to explain the association between ocular changes and the physiological and pathological changes during pregnancy. The choroid is one of the critical parts of t...

BACKGROUND Enhanced-depth imaging optical coherence tomography (EDI-OCT) provides high-resolution imaging of the choroid. Herein, we report multimodal imaging, including EDI-OCT, of a case of sarcoid choroidal granulomas. FINDINGS A 63-year-old female with biopsy-supported sarcoidosis presented with unilateral multifocal choroidal granulomas. Enhanced-depth imaging optical coherence tomograph...
متن کاملCombined depth imaging of choroid in uveitis
BACKGROUND Understanding the changes that occur in the choroid is of paramount importance in various uveitis entities. B-scan ultrasonography and indocyanine green angiography can be used to study choroid. Currently, spectral-domain optical coherence tomography is used as the standard noninvasive technique to study the choroid by enhanced depth imaging. Our aim was to study the structural visib...
